Most Energy engineering design problems can be formulated as constrained optimization problems, often requiring single or multi-parameter optimization. The lecture will introduce students to meta-heuristic techniques such as Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Differential Evolution (DE) and Simulated Annealing (SA) which could be useful to solve such problems. The course is kept on the level of graduate level of engineering study and the software platform used will be MATLAB.
